Raindrops and Restoration

Rain

“He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul.” – Psalm 23:2–3a

Today the rain came. The garden work paused. Tools stayed put, and hands remained clean. Sometimes it’s easy to feel unproductive on days like these, watching the rain fall while our to-do list sits untouched. But perhaps this is precisely what we need.

Just as the soil needs rain to rest and be nourished, so do our souls. God created rhythms—of work and rest, of sowing and waiting, of sunshine and showers. The rain reminds us that growth doesn’t always come from our striving. Sometimes, the most fruitful days are the quiet ones when the earth drinks deeply and we sit still before the Lord.

David reminds us in Psalm 23 that our Shepherd makes us lie down and leads us beside still waters. Sometimes, God uses rain—not only for the crops but for us—to restore our weary hearts. It’s His invitation to slow down, breathe, and remember that He is the one who brings the increase.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the rain—both for the earth and for my spirit. Teach me to receive these pauses as gifts from You. Help me rest in Your provision and trust that even in stillness, You are at work. Amen.
