Strength for the Season

Strength for the Season

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:9

Homesteading requires grit. Whether it’s hauling water in the cold, facing a surprise storm that damages a fence, dealing with sick animals, or getting up before dawn to tend to chores—you quickly learn that this life isn’t for the faint of heart.

And yet, God’s call in Joshua 1:9 echoes across time and circumstance:
“Be strong and courageous… for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Joshua stood at the edge of a great challenge—leading God’s people into the unknown. The land was promised, yes, but it still had to be taken. There would be giants. Battles. Setbacks. But there was also this truth: God would not leave him.

On the homestead, there are moments when you stand at the edge of your own challenges—uncertainty in the weather, financial pressure, physical exhaustion, or loneliness in the hard seasons. But this verse reminds us that we don’t face these things alone.

God Is Present in the Daily

The promise of “wherever you go” includes muddy pastures, frozen water lines, garden failures, and hard choices. It includes the unknowns of tomorrow and the worn-out places of today. His presence doesn’t depend on your strength—it’s why you can be strong.

So take heart. Feed the animals. Chop the wood. Do the next right thing. And know that your courage doesn’t have to come from within—it flows from the One who walks with you through every task, every storm, every victory, and every setback.

Reflection Questions:

  • What challenge on your homestead (or life) feels overwhelming right now?
  • How might God be calling you to show strength and courage today?
  • In what ways can you rely more on His presence than your own efforts?

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for being with me—whether I’m in the garden or the barn, facing a challenge or enjoying a quiet moment. Help me to draw strength not from myself but from You. When I feel weary, remind me that Your presence is my courage. Amen.
