A Glimpse of Spring in Winter

Warm Winter Day

“For behold, the winter is past; the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing has come.”
Song of Solomon 2:11–12a (ESV)

Today brought a break in the cold. The chill that had gripped the homestead seemed to ease, and for a moment, it felt like spring was reaching out through winter’s grasp. The air softened, the sun warmed the ground, and the birds even sang a little louder. Though it’s not time to plant, something in our hearts stirred—hope.

It’s amazing how just one warm day in the midst of a long, cold season can lift the spirit.

Spiritually, we experience this too. Life brings its winters—hard, barren, gray seasons where hope can feel far off. But then, unexpectedly, God gives us a moment of warmth. A breakthrough. A reminder that this season won’t last forever. A spiritual “spring day” in the middle of our waiting.

Song of Solomon speaks of a time when winter is past and singing returns. And even if that time hasn’t fully arrived, God in His kindness sometimes gives us a glimpse—a taste of what’s to come.

So when that warmth comes—whether through a break in the weather, a quiet answer to prayer, a kind word, or a renewed sense of peace—let it point you to the faithfulness of God. He hasn’t forgotten you. Spring is coming.

Reflection Questions:

  • What has God used lately to remind you that winter won’t last forever?
  • Are you watching for glimpses of His goodness in the middle of hard seasons?
  • How can you encourage someone else who’s still walking through their “winter”?

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the unexpected days of warmth—reminders that You are always working, even in the cold seasons. Help me to hold onto hope, to see Your hand in small moments, and to trust that new life is coming. You are faithful in every season. Amen.
