“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.”
— Jeremiah 17:7–8 (ESV)
The wind whipped across the fields today—shaking branches, whistling through fence posts, and leaving everything feeling raw and exposed. The cold pressed in with force, reminding us that winter is creeping closer, and only the well-rooted and well-prepared will endure it comfortably.
Days like this test the strength of everything on the homestead—trees, fences, animals, and people alike. It’s not the kind of day where growth happens or progress is made. It’s a day to hunker down, hold fast, and lean on what’s already been put in place.
Jeremiah gives us a picture of someone who thrives in all seasons, even the harsh ones—not because of perfect weather or easy conditions, but because they are deeply rooted in God. Just like trees that survive the cold winds because their roots run deep and steady, we too are called to grow down into God’s Word and His promises so that we remain unshaken when life gets blustery.
It’s not about escaping the storm—it’s about being anchored through it.
Reflection Questions:
- What “roots” have you put down spiritually to help you endure life’s storms?
- Are you relying on your own strength or leaning into God’s steady faithfulness?
- What can you do to deepen your spiritual roots before the next cold wind blows?
Prayer:
Lord, when the cold winds of life blow hard against me, help me not to panic or drift. Remind me to remain rooted in You—unshaken, trusting, and full of life even in hard seasons. Thank You for being the steady ground beneath my feet. Amen.
